Eden (2019) is a conceptual app leveraging augmented reality to provide users with recommendations for plants and decorations, along with previews of where to place them in a room. Inspired by then-recent advancements in iOS apps that allow distance measurement using only the camera, I envisioned innovative uses of this feature with Eden.
I planned, filmed, edited, narrated, and created the animations for this video.
What's the benefit of plants in the home?
Plants improve air quality by filtering toxins, reducing the risk of diseases and allergies. They convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, which enhances air quality. Plants create a soothing environment that reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and promotes relaxation and happiness. They also boost productivity, attention, and reaction speed. Additionally, plants help relax the nervous system, aiding in better sleep, and enhance the overall appearance of any space.
Smoke & Mirrors
To validate the app concept with users, we developed a prototype that simulates augmented reality. Users can "scan" their room to provide the app with accurate dimensions and lighting conditions from various sources.
Supporting All Use Cases
Through discussions with our testers, we discovered that users may not always want recommendations for their entire space. To support this, we allow them to take a photo of a specific area within their room where they need suggestions.
Progression
This early version of the app focused on suggesting optimal plant and lighting placements for homes. Through discussions with potential users, I identified opportunities to enhance its value by expanding recommendations beyond mere plant placement to ensure overall room health and functionality.
