The mountain can be a lonely and treacherous place when you're on your own. Paow (2019) is a conceptual app designed to connect skiers and snowboarders, allowing them to track each other on the mountain. Beyond enhancing social interactions and fostering new friendships among like-minded individuals, Paow also enhances safety in what can be a hazardous environment.
What problem is Paow solving?
Many skiers and snowboarders often find themselves without a buddy or family member to accompany them on their ski trip, which can be lonely, and more importantly, unsafe. Paow addresses this by connecting individuals planning to ski or snowboard, facilitating the tracking of ski metrics, and simplifying coordination on the mountain.
How to Meet New People
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of apps designed to connect strangers. However, it can be difficult for people to find others who share interests and hobbies. Paow aims to facilitate friendships between people with a shared love for pow. Our tailored approach ensures connections with people who share a niche hobby and a passion for winter sports right from the start.
Building for the User
Through the research for and testing of this app, I discovered the information that users found most important and the ways in which they wanted to interact with the app.
Progression
I iterated based on user testing feedback and rebranded to update the visual style. I focused the final design on increasing the amount of information about the potential match and reducing the emphasis on the photos which aren't as important to the users.
